Swim Lessons

Swim Babies

This class is offered for children ages 6 months-3 years.

A great class for adults to get in the water with their little ones, to help them grow familiar with the water.

This class meets once a week for 5 weeks. Each class is a 30 minute session.

American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program

Offered for all swim levels.

Classes will meet twice a week for 4 weeks. Each class is a 30 minute session.

Level 1 - Swimmers learn the basics of buoyancy, breathing, kicking, and swim techniques.

Level 2 - Swimmers work on freestyle, backstroke, and learn basic water safety skills.

Level 3 - Swimmers practice rotary breathing skills while building endurance with freestyle.They will also work on backstroke, elementary backstroke, treading water, and head first entries.

Level 4 - Swimmers are introduced to breaststroke, butterfly, and sidestroke. They will learn competition starts, and introduced to flip turns.

Level 5 - Swimmers are introduced to competitive swimming, rules and regulations, and higher technique work for all four competitive strokes.

Bryant Parks and Recreation offers a variety of private, and semi private swim lessons. Various levels of lessons are offered beginning with level 1 swim.

BASS Swim Team

Bass

The Mission of the BASS Swim Team is to focus on building the proper stroke technique needed to compete at a high level, while introducing kids to the sport of Competitive Swimming. We strive to make each swimmer into the best they can be, while keeping it enjoyable.

Gold Level is for those that are interested in training for a higher level of competition. This group focuses on more advanced training, but we still include a great deal of emphasis on technique. This level would be the step before joining teams in higher competition venues. Swimmers must be approved by a coach to swim at this level.

Cost/month - $75.00

Silver Level is for those that would be Level 5 in our Swim School. It is designed for those who have competed in swimming before and that still need help with the strokes and technique. This group focuses on building the proper swimming technique through practice of basic aerobic training, advanced drills and turns.

Cost/month - $66.00

Bronze Level is for those that would be Level 4 in our Swim School. It is designed for those who have never competed in swimming before, or those that still need help with the strokes and technique. This group focuses on building the proper swimming technique through practice of kicking and basic drills. We want to build a base of good swimming habits before moving on to endurance training. Must know breaststroke kick.

American Red Cross Classes

Lifeguarding Certification Course

Blended Learning

Lifeguarding Certification Course fee: $250

Each participant taking the review course must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.

  • The class fee is due at time of registration.
  • This fee is non-refundable.
  • Participants must attend all classes of the session.
  • Participants must be able to complete the final written exams and in-water scenarios in order to receive the certification.
  • EACH PARTICIPANT TAKING THE LIFEGUARDING CERTIFICATION COURSE WILL BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE 7 HOURS OF ON-LINE MATERIAL BEFORE THE FIRST CLASS MEETING. ONCE THE CLASS HAS BEEN PAID FOR, YOU WILL HAVE ACCESS TO THE ON-LINE MATERIAL.

Prerequisites:

Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing, using the front crawl and/or breaststroke.

Complete a timed event in 1 minute and 40 seconds:

  • Swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10 lb. object from a depth of 7-10 feet, resurface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object. When returning to the starting point, the 10 pound object must be held with both hands and the face must be kept above the water.

Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.

  • If special accommodations must be made to complete the course, there will be an additional charge of $25/hour.
  • Girls should wear a one-piece swimsuit.
  • Long hair should be pulled back in a ponytail.

American Red Cross
Water Safety Instructor Certification Course

Blended Learning

Class Fee: $300.00

Participants must be able to complete the final written exams and in-water sessions in order to receive the certification.

The purpose of the Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach Learn-to-Swim courses and water safety presentations in the Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program to help course participants reach water competency and to learn to be safer in and around water. The Water Safety Instructor course trains instructor candidates by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants’ progress.

Prerequisites:

  • Be at least 16 years of age on or before the final scheduled lesson of this course.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform the following swimming skills:
    • Swim the following strokes consistent with the Stroke Performance Charts, Level 3
    • Front crawl—25 yards
    • Breaststroke—25 yards
    • Elementary backstroke—25 yards
    • Sidestroke—25 yards
  • Maintain position on back in deep water for 1 minute (floating/sculling).
  • Tread water for 1 minute.
